Welcome to the Year 6 page and thank you for taking the time out to view our webpage.

About Our Year

We begin the autumn term with our residential trip to CYE. Children will be engaging in a wide variety of exciting and challenging activities. Later in the term we will be awarding the prestigious roles of house captains, deputy and head boy and girl. Children are invited to apply for these positions, whereby they will use their skills to support the school in many important ways.

One of the highlights of year 6 is our Greek topic in the Autumn term. Children will be taking part in an entire day of activities linked with the Greeks. We will be fully immersed in the period as we dress up in Greek clothing.

In the Spring term the children will be learning about WW2. They will have a visitor from the local area, teaching them about the impact of the war in our local community. This will end with a fieldtrip experience day.

Later in the summer term, the children will be investigating the workings of the heart, where they will be doing some exciting science-linked investigations. They will be learning about the history, food and culture of the Shang Dynasty. Along with finding out about life in America and immersing themselves in our key text “Holes” by Louis Sachar.

In addition to this, the summer term brings a wide range of unique experiences as the children get ready for their transition to secondary school. These include a special Chichester Cathedral service of celebration, involving schools from around the diocese, ending with a leavers party!
